“Lucky Are Those Born Black” Children’s book is inspired by and named after my eldest Brother Dwight Reed’s award-winning poem published in 1972. Dwight continues to be an inspiration and a light to me and his 10 other siblings. Yes we are a tribe of 12 siblings, offspring of Margie and Paul Reed Sr. Though each of us are various shades of black, we were taught that LOVE is one color…the color God gave each one of us at birth. LATBB leaves the reader with a deep appreciation and understanding that they are beloved by God and intentionally made just as they come.

DeShane and Barbara Reed are Practitioners with more than 45 years combined experience working with youth and families from underserved and overlooked communities. DeShane’s professional background is in chemical dependency counseling and leadership development. Barbara is a Licensed Clinical Therapist with vast professional experience helping individuals, families and children overcome obstacles to obtain overall wellness.
DeShane and Barbara are now treading on paths to impact our next generation in different ways. We believe that the earlier we can impart positive affirmations into the growing minds of our youth, the higher their likelihood to view themselves in a healthy and balanced way.
